What are Clear Aligners?

Clear Aligners are an innovative teeth-alignment system that offers an alternative to traditional metal braces. It’s a great choice for teens and adults who want to straighten their smile without going through a year or more of wearing metal brackets and wires.

The SureSmileⓇ system uses a series of clear plastic aligner trays to place gentle pressure on your teeth. Over time, this pressure moves teeth into better alignment in much the same way as the brackets, wires, and elastics used in traditional metal orthodontics. 

Not only is the SureSmile system virtually indistinguishable while wearing, but you’ll also avoid the soft tissue damage that metal brackets and braces can cause. The ability to straighten teeth without a gleaming metal smile is a big part of what makes this treatment so popular. 

What kinds of alignment issues can Clear Aligners treat?

Clear Aligners can treat many of the same issues as metal braces. Some examples of treatable cases include:

• Overbite
• Underbite
• Cross bite
• Open bite
• General misalignment
• Gapped teeth
• Mix of permanent and baby teeth

Not all cases can be corrected using SureSmile or any tray-based system. During your initial consultation, your practitioner will advise you on the best course of action.

What is it like to go through SureSmile treatment?

Wearing SureSmile aligners is an easy way to achieve the smile of your dreams. The process begins with an initial visit, where digital imaging is used to create a customized treatment plan. 

Once your first set of aligners arrives, you’ll come in to learn how to put them in place. You’ll wear your aligners around the clock, removing them only during meals and while brushing and flossing your teeth.

A degree of soreness is normal for a day or two after switching to a new set of trays, just like after having a braces wire replaced. These sensations will lessen quickly, and any discomfort can be addressed using over-the-counter pain medication. 

You’ll change to a new set of aligners every couple of weeks. Periodic visits at Dr. Whyte Smile allow your care team to check your treatment progress and make adjustments as needed.
